Learning New Skills

I'm so happy that i took this class even though it's not for my recquirement course. I can't believe that I can use html code to create the website now because I used to create the website by using FrontPage(That's long time ago:p).
HTML code is much more advance for buildng the website. I have leraned so many new program this summer such as Audacity, GifBuilder,Photoshop, jEdit, dreamweaver, iMovie GIF Animator and Adobe Flash. I might need to go over and try to figure out all of function for each software. I would like to develop more for my website but it's so intensive...
These two days i was trying to work on Adobe Flash ....I'm really struggling with this software. Especially I have trouble to use "timeline," there are so many different functions just for simple draging.

Indeed, Im going to continue learn this area in the future.  It's really useful and I am definity going to encorage and bring those skill that i learned from the class to my future students!

Dance Literacy

                                   Sources from :    www.dancenotation.org/theorybbdiscussion20/20_15_Wile.html

From the traditional point of view, we can described that literacy is the ability to read and write. So most of people might think that what is dance literacy? why dance literacy? How to combine dance and literacy?
" Some people says dance literacy inclusive of all aspects of language development, including reading, vocabulary building, drawing links to structures in the writing process and symbology of motifs/symbols." (NDEO)
I think Labanotation is the effect way to describe dance literacy. It is a language for dancers, actors, choreographers, therapists to describe, interprete, view our human movment. Its created by Rudolf Laban. "Reading and Writing" dance is not only to understand written dance notation, but also to underlying the basic elements. How do we choice the "words," by using rhythm, effort, space and relationship...etc.
It is indeed to bring this concept into dance education, most of students in dance major only know how to dance well . Even though, we knowing about lots of dance knowledge, knowledge of dance history ...but it does mean that we have the ability to read and write dance movement. Honestly, in dance so few people can read and write dance.

There are so rescourses about dance literacy

"Essential Tool" in Arts

It was a busy and muggy day...I was truly sweating from Douglas Dunn's modern dance class this morning. It is a very traditional technique because we did lot of exercise such as, tundu, eleve, releve, jete, balance for our warm up in center stage...etc. It is a foundation and basic class. No any variation movement. Sometimes, it's good to keep thing's simple in our life just like this class. We are always trying to make things complcated...
I think any products should be work toward this path.
For the past few days of class, I've been learning so many different kind of software. It's really excited!
The most challenge thing is that I'm using PC in the class. Therefore, sometimes I have trouble to catch up  during the class. But back to the original thing to take a look at PC& Mac, I feel that actually it's just different interfaace, cotrol and function. I tried to use i Movie in our computher lab yesterday. It was a little bit hard for me to use it but its really showed lots of effect!   I'd like to explore more about Mac in the future.

However, I do think I would be countinuing deep study in Web design after this semester. I think technology is part of our life. Computer is not just using for searching the internet or chatting online. I found it's a essential tool and it'd be work on different domains. Especially in Arts !

Unique thinker

Yesterday I went to Merce Fair morning section. I feel that Merce Cunningham's works has alsways been special and difficult to understand . His work was so much about dance, music, art, technology and life. His life partner,John Cge, had been collaborating from 1940's -1992. They were prefer match . All of John Cage's unbalance music rythem, Cunningham would create inconsistent feeeling used different time, space design, light, camera filming were building a very unique pheonmena. During the section, we get to choose our own path through the rooms and events. In the Atrium 5th Floor, there was a family workshop. The comapny dancer,Patricia Lent, taught "Field Dances" to ages 10 and up with Cunningham Repertory Understudy Group. Children were very happy to play around and learn from Patricia. There was another film called "Point in Space," we get to see the collaboration between Merce Cunningham, John Cage, and filmmaker Elliot Caplan. It was a exciting stage viewing from television. 12 Dancers were always keep busy but using very simple movement. Even though, John Cage's music was inharmonious but  the space design background were quiet match to dancers and music. Every time watched Cunningham's works always make me think a lot. I think it is a unique event for creator ,choreographer, artist!

A Celebration Of Dance Through Movment,Film& Art

"THE DANCER FILMS is a collection of very short films based on Jules Feiffer’s beloved
cartoon character, the modern DANCER - with live dancer:
A DANCE TO SPRING, A DANCE TO ART, A DANCE TO SUMMER, A DANCE TO THE LOSS OF INNOCENCE, A DANCE TO THE NEW YEAR, A DANCE TO THE END OF SUMMER; and NINE
MINUTES, a string of six dances."

This event is located in World Financial Center Winter Garden from July9 Sat - July 17.
It is an interesting idea to create this project to introduce body movement and films to the public people.Their company is a non-profit organization. Great people produced ,presented and working in contemporary forms of music, theater and dance. For this project "dancer films," the dancer presented the emotion, sensitivity and simple words or body alignment to express and reflicts the natural beauty life. I was lovely to connect through filming technique.
